Over 50 years ago Antonio Romano came to America to start a new life. Having been trained on board an Italian Cruise Ship, Tony hoped his love of cooking and his devotion for his new country could someday go hand in hand. Working in Manhattan as a top chef, Tony met his one true love – Anna. When they wed, Tony was one of the most sort after Italian chefs in N.Y.C. Tony still had dreams of his own place where he and Anna could build a future for their new born son Santo. With the support and encouragement of his lovely wife , Tony opened his first eatery in Carroll Gardens. An often crowded sandwich and specialties shop on Cheever Place. After a few years this popular little shop became too small to satisfy all of his loyal customers and their appetite for Tony’s many One of a Kind Specials..

In 1983 Tony opened The Red Rose with a cozy dining room, a brick oven and a full service bar here on Smith Street.. Tony, Anna and Santo finally established the family style restaurant of their dreams right here in the neighborhood they have always loved.

The Red Rose is still family-run . Their son Santo is your host. Together, with the “Extended Romano Family” they are here to serve your favorite traditional Italian dishes along with Tony’s famous specialties.
